A space designed for vitamine B: PLANET (E)ART(H)

Paintings, videos, objects from China, Brazil and Limburg
Opening Wednesday 7 March 2007, 16.00 - 8 April 2007
Gouvernement aan de Maas te Maastricht

At the invitation of the Province of Limburg, Museum Het Domein presents a cocktail of creative vitamins for body and soul at Gouvernement aan de Maas in the context of the BIPOLIS event, which takes as its theme Thought on Food/Food for Thought. In the context of the international exchange project Made in Mirrors, Vitamin Creative Space, an art institution based in Guangzhou, China, and also one of Museum Het Domein’s structural partners, focuses on art as a vitamin, spiritual sustenance for society. One of the Vitamin Creative Space projects is “How to travel with a watermelon” by Duan Jianyu, an artistic exploration which comments on the worldwide circulation of the same people, ideas and cultures from a Chinese perspective.

The Limburg multi-national DSM is also a partner in the Made in Mirrors project. Globally and in China in particular, DSM’s life sciences branch is one of the largest manufacturers of synthetic vitamins. Through its art collection and special interest in the creative industry, DSM is also a company that actively engages with the Limburg region.

All these various aspects conjoin in the exhibition PLANET (E)ART(H), a project on the significance of creativity as a multi-vitamin for the post-industrial future of the region in an international perspective, on the reflection of the diverse cultures and of new and old economies. With Chinese artists like Duan Jianyu and Cao Fei, from the collections of the museum itself and DSM. PLANET (E)ART(H) is made possible thanks to the intercultural exchange project Made in Mirrors.

The exhibition can be viewed on weekdays from 7 March 2007 to 8 April 2007 in Gouvernement aan de Maas, Limburglaan 10, Maastricht.

Bipolis is a twice-yearly event on the creative industry in the Euregion. The presentations are hosted by the NAi te Maastricht, Z33 in Hasselt and in Gouvernement te Maastricht. The Long Night of Creativity will also be held to mark the event on 14 March in the Centre Céramique.
