In Guangzhou, Wagner adressed the clichés consumed by emerging middle class couples through wedding photography. In Sittard, she developped an essay with “woonwagenkampbewoners”, people living in “mobile homes” within urban areas. Dealing with both social groups, the artist will be directly working on what is and what is not under control for these two societies – as she has done before, in her photographic series Brasília Teimosa –, thus representing the cultural tensions between centre and periphery experienced in cities worldwide.

Bárbara Wagner aims to find relations between the well-known social stereotypes built around those cultures (Brazil, China and The Netherlands), dealing with social groups which daily go beyond – and denial – the cultural canons of beauty, behavior, happiness, civility and welfare that are exposed and validated by the globalized media.
