Chinergie

The China SUMMER Show in Sittard

11/08/07 – 02/09/07
opening 10/08/2007; 17h

It is about 40ÂșC or hotter in Guangzhou in July en August. Museum Het Domein therefore offers “cool’’ refuge to the Chinese with *Chinergie – The China Summer Show*. This series of exhibitions, events, and presentations came into existence through the synergy of Vitamin Creative Space and Museum Het Domein and it will be the cause of quite some extra heat!

The artists Ni Haifeng and Wang Jianwei cooperate with Art historian Kitty Zijlmans (University of Leiden) for the project Forms of Exchange. Forms of Exchange explores the question of ‘exchange’ on an artistic and a scientific level. What do you give away and what do you get in return? The installations “Gift” of Ni & Zijlmans as well as Wang’s “Input/Output” therefore involve direct social exchange with the public, and rule is, that first comes first
.

The Chinese artist Liang Shuo (Tianjin,1976) exhibited little frivolous ceramic figurines during the guestroom#3 in January 2006. Equally naughty, but much more moderate, is the video piece ‘Letter to my lover and letter to my wife’ (2005) that he donated to the Museum Het Domein. In the context of Chinergie – The China Summer show, the piece is now on display in Sittard for the first time, and will be illustrated by a small publication.

Xu Shuxian of Vitamin Creative, and DJ and journalist Dave are coming straight from Guangzhou to Sittard in order to introduce videos, works of young Chinese designers, publications and local (china pop) music to the Sittardian public. This Hot Young Culture is shown in the Made in Mirrors studio in the Paardestraat 38 and on location, e.g. the Sittardian Market (16/08) and the manifestation festival (26/08)

On august 30, the second edition of Cinema Flinx will of course be all about China. At dusk, film theatre Het Domein, foundation Made in Mirrors, will cater for an exciting film program in the museum garden, for which Xu Shuxian will bring a few films straight from China (from 21.00h, free).

ChinergieIn May 2007, Rik Meijers stayed about two weeks in Guangzhou. In the T-time of September 2, Meijers will give an interview in which he will voice his artistic as well as personal experiences of his stay in China, in which the perception of his work by the Dutch and Chinese public will be central. At the same time, This T-time will round off the *China Summer Show*
