The first artist from MIM, Rik Meijers with his wife Desiree arrived Guangzhou on 11 May. There was an opening for Chu Yun’s exhibition, lots of art people came. Rik caught up with the dinner and was able to meet and communicate with them. From 11 May to 25 May, Rik visited the underground bookstore, urban village, stone church, the Da Fou temple and QINGPING market in Guangzhou city, and had a brilliant lecture for the student in Guangzhou academy of fine art. At the same time, Rik visited Suzhou for I-mark in the weekend, and finished the wall painting on the wall in Vitamin.
About the Tour in Guangzhou
Rik and Desiree have visited a lot of places, Vincent guided them through Guangzhou. They were very good luck, when they visited the church and temple on Sunday. They have met the traditional rite and Local Catholic mass, and were very impressed by these.

To visit so many places in such a short time is a very hard task: the weather was very hot during this time; the local people usually don’t speak English well; it lacks of the English indicates everywhere. It’s not easy to visit all places they want freely and easily for foreign artists. Vincent did hard works for this. Now the address in Chinese was added in the package of Guangzhou. Artist can show the address to the taxi driver, it will be easier for the artists to travel.
About Rik’s wall-painting
The public wall-painting is a very hard thing in China. There’re complex applying processes and strict censorship in content. So, we discussed with Rik and chose a suitable wall for painting at Vitamin Creative Space. The size of the painting is 2m×3m, and we think it very convenient for people who come to Vitamin to look it and share their feeling.

The lecture was held in Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in the University City. It’s organized by the 5th Studio of Painting Department and Vitamin Creative Space and Professor Huang Xiaopeng arranged the lecture. Over 100 students came for the lecture. Rik prepared free posters and beers for students. The topic of the lecture is “Beautiful Underdog”, Rik talked about his works. Rik, Professor Huang Xiaopeng, Zhang Wei and the exiting students had a very active discussion and communication in different aspects of art and contemporary culture during that night. It was a very nice evening, and we were all very impressed.

About the work with I-mark
Rik, Desiree and Sue arrived Suzhou at 19th May for I-Mart.

I-mart in Suzhou “Xu Men”
I-Mart is a free market for creative young generation. It’s organized by a Cantonese magazine “City Pictorial”. At the beginning, for some accidental reasons, Rik’s wall print was not able to hang on the ancient wall “Xu Men”. It was frustrating. But Rik joined the market after.

Rik put his posters and stickers on the table of his booth and soon attracted lots of people. And also with the promotional efforts of I-Mart, people came and colored his stickers fervidly. There’re folk singers, designers, students or just kids and people walked by. It was busy and very interesting. Rik’s posters and stickers were sent out.
The next day in Suzhou, Rik, Desiree and Sue visited the famous garden “The Humble Administrator’s Garden” and the old area of the city to see the daily live of local people.
